These are a few claims out there on the labels of vitamin and mineral supplements. Is there proof that taking these vitamins can remedy a bad diet, or help you shed weight? Vitamins are essential for our daily diet, but it is only meant to fill small nutrient gaps. They are not here to replace your healthy diet or add to it.

Dietary supplements as a whole are not intended to be used as a food substitute. They cannot meet all of your body's nutrient requirements. Numerous studies have shown the health benefits and effectiveness of supplementing missing nutrients in the diet. A National Institutes of Health (NIH) study found increased bone density and reduced fractures in postmenopausal women who took calcium and vitamin D.

Who Needs a multi-vitamin?

Anyone who has a diet lacking the 40 plus nutrients needed to maintain good health. Even if you are not an athlete, or a gym rat, you should analyze your diet (start there) then get a multi-vitamin that meets your needs.
